Hawks Use True Team Effort to Overwhelm Warriors, 26-0
The Hayfield Hawks used a blistering balanced attack to crush the visiting Wakefield Warriors on Tuesday night. Every batter in the lineup scored at least one run and had an RBI during the contest.
The Hawks were led at the plate by Hannah Williams, Amber Fowler and Megan Perry-Shifflett, who all doubled twice in the game. Fowler drove in four runs to set a new school record of 30 RBI's on the year. Williams, the leadoff batter, went 3-3, batted in 3, drew 3 walks, stole 5 bases and scored 4 runs. Tonight's thievery leaves Williams one away from tying the Virginia State High School League record of 39 stolen bases in a single season.
Angela Sudik had a 2-2 night and brought in three runs including one on a perfect suicide bunt. Katelyn Thorne was 3-3 with a double, 2 RBIs, 2 walks, 4 steals and 4 runs. Taylor Neuhart batted 3-5 with 2 steals. Neuhart, Kelly Sheaff and Kolbie Franco each scored three runs in the game. Sam Perry-Shifflett had two RBIs and two steals.
Not to be forgotten, the Hawks' pitching was outstanding as well, as Neuhart and Fowler combined on a 5-inning no hitter, with only one batter reaching base on an error. The duo totaled 7 strikeouts.
Hayfield (16-2, 12-0) will next travel to Yorktown on Friday, May 7th for their last regular season road game.
