The JV Hawks win streak is now at 7 games, having not lost since December 2010. The Hawks defeated Wakefield HS by 9 points tonight, a game which was much closer than the final score, with both the half and the third quarter starting with a tie game. The Hawks, who connected on 6 three pointers during the game, were able to withstand a 16-33 night from the free throw line. They did hit them when it mattered, shooting 5-6 down the stretch.
The Hawks were led tonight by starters, PG Brandon Lawson (13 pts. 2 stls.), F Aaron Pratt (11 pts. 8 rebs. 2 stls.), and reserve PG Tyler Thornton (10 pts. 2 assts.) who broke double figures for the third time in four games. Perhaps the key play of the game came at the end of the first half, when shooting guard Baz Biniam (4 assts. 3 rebs.) drove the length of the court, and found Xavier Canady in the corner for a 3 pt. field goal. Those points tied the game at 18 apiece. These were key, for Wakefield came out blazing, scoring 6 straight to start the third quarter. If not for the previous 3, Wakefield would have been up 9, which could have put the Hawks in a difficult situation. The Hawks return home tomorrow, for a makeup game vs. W&L, the last team to defeat the Hawks.
