Hawks Fall to Generals, Finish Pre-season 1-1
In their second pre-season game in 3 days, the Hayfield Boys Lacrosse team again brought a level of physicality to the playing field. This year’s squad has a level of swagger, which they bring to each game. Unfortunately the Hawks fell to the Generals of W&L HS last night 14-11, but they didn’t lose their drive, passion, and physicality of play. They didn’t give in at all, tallying two goals in the closing minutes, while striving to learn from their mistakes. While there were plenty of areas of opportunity to focus on, the one area that Hayfield is already soaring at is collective team attitude. This team is showing strength in coming together when the chips are down.
Notable performances included: Sr. A/M Clint Pearson put on a show, tallying 7 goals (on 14 shots, tying a school record). Pearson put Hayfield on the board with 2 goals in the 2nd quarter, and then scored 4 more in the 3rd, while adding his 7th goal of the evening early in the 4th frame. Of his 7 goals, 4 were unassisted, and the other 3 were dimes from three different sources (Diallo, Medrano, and Manley Jr.). Pearson also exerted his leadership capabilities, by taking charge verbally at halftime, imploring his teammates to raise their level play. Being a true leader, Pearson also led the way on the field, scoring 4 times in a 6 minute stretch. Jr. A Patrick Manley Jr. displayed his all-around game with 1 goal and 2 assists, including a clutch feed to So. A/M Hayden Page (1 goal, 2 assists, 4 GB’s), who scored with 0.30 on the clock. Not to be outdone, Jr. M Brian Marshall found the back of the net with 0.01 remaining in the game, on one of Page’s dimes! Jr. G Jake Fischer battled valiantly to keep the game within reach, stopping 13 shots, many in close. Hayfield will open the 2018 regular season on the road at Mt. Vernon on Thursday, March 15th!
