Hawks Dominate 1st Quarter, Majors Take Game
The Hayfield Boys Lax team came out soaring, tallying a season high 6 goals in the first quarter, seemingly headed to their first victory of the season. Unfortunately it was not to be as penalties, loss of physical discipline, two major unforced errors and a loss of offensive cohesiveness allowed the Majors of Mt. Vernon to come back again.
Hayfield was paced again by their dual threats on attack; Sr. Clint Pearson (4 goals), and So. Hayden Page (4 goals). The two are tied for the team lead with 14 goals apiece, and Pearson also added to his team high 16 points (14 goals, 2 assists). Hayfield received other contributions from Jr. FO/M Luke Artero (2 goals, 1 assist), Jr. M Brian Marshall (1 assist), and Jr. Amadu Turay (1 assist). Hayfield also won the ground ball battle (21-9), with Jr. LSM Omar Diallo and Jr. D Kody Venable pacing the Hawks with 6 ground balls each. Unfortunately, the Hawks spent too much time in the penalty box, which wore down the defense, allowing for Mt. Vernon to capitalize in the 4th quarter.
