Wolverines Clip Hawks Wings
Hayfield Boys Lacrosse returned to action, following Spring Break 2018, with plenty of hustle, grit, determination, and effort. Despite all of those positive characteristics, the Hawks were not able to convert several key opportunities, leading to a lopsided defeat at the hands of their cross- town rivals, the Wolverines of West Potomac HS. West Potomac was just sharper, having played over Spring Break, while the Hawks were seeing the field for the first time in 10 days, and the first game since March 19th. That sharpness, combined with playing at home, set the tone for the game. Hayfield battled valiantly, and continued to work hard throughout the contest, never giving up, despite the score.
The Hawks were led by Jr. Attack Brian Marshall (2 goals), who worked hard, scrapping on every play, whether on offense, or riding on defense. His physical presence in the offensive end, began to show promise last night, and with more practice at the position, will bear fruit later this season. He was joined in the scoring column by Jr. Attack Amadu Turay (1 goal), who turned nothing into something, splitting two defenders on a beautiful inside roll, to score his first goal of the season. Unfortunately, later in the game, Turay hyperextended his knee, and is now listed as questionable for Thursday’s tilt at Annandale. Hayfield also had success by committee (Hayden Page, Luke Artero, Angel Medrano, and Kingsford Yeboah), at the face-off circle, winning 9 of 17 face-offs.
