A Tale of Two Halves; Hawks fall to Titans
Hayfield Boys Varsity closely matched the favored Titans for most of the first 24 minutes, only to run out of gas late in the 3rd quarter, ultimately falling to TC Williams
16-7. Hayfield briefly held a 2-1 lead, early in the 1st quarter, then regained the lead going into the 2nd quarter; 3-2. The Titans roared back, outscoring Hayfield 5-1 in the second frame, to take a tenuous 7-4 lead at halftime. Unfortunately for the Hawks, the Titans were just warming up. With a season high 14 penalties (many of them mental mistakes), combined with TC’s reawakened offense, the deficit quickly rose to near double digits. Hayfield continued to work hard, too no avail, as their frequent trips to the penalty box was their undoing.
Soph. Thorsten Muehlbauer (1 goal) scored his first varsity goal late in the 3rd quarter. Sr. Brian Marshall (2 goals) added to his team high goals (8 in three games), while Jr. Hayden Page (1 assist), hampered by a cut toe, raised his point total to 8 (tied with Marshall). Sr. Angel Medrano (2 goals, 3 groundballs), tallied two times in the eventful 1st quarter, twice giving Hayfield leads. Sr. Jamin Phillips (1 goal), raised his goal total to 5 on the young season. Sr. Omar Diallo, who marked the Titans best player most of the night holding him to 25% shooting on 12 shots, scooped up a team high 6 ground balls (giving him 11 in the last two games).
