Hawks Unable to Hold Back Lancers
Hayfield Boys Lax, after playing hard until the last second vs. W&L the previous Friday, barely got going offensively on Tuesday night, vs. Langley HS at home. The Lancers were up 2-0 within the first two minutes, before freshman Phenom Hayden Page, who took advantage of one of the few sloppy plays committed by the Lancers, and found the back of the net, for his 3rd goal of the year (he would add his 4th of the year, later in the 2nd quarter, on a quick start pass from FO/M Clint Pearson). Pearson (2 goals, 1 assist) would also find the back of the net twice, as he began to dominate the face-off circle, late in the 4th quarter.
Unfortunately for Hayfield, there was too much Langley, and not enough Hayfield on this night. The Lancers collective team speed, and their superior numbers (35 players), wore down the already thin defensive corps of the Hawks, who were without 3 key players last night. While Hayfield worked very hard, they did not play effectively, or efficiently, which helped lead to their demise. Hayfield returns to the field on Thursday night, when the Yorktown Patriots come for their last regular season visit (The Hawks will switch to a new conference next season).
