The JV Hawks are enjoying their long home stand, winning their 6th in row, and 2nd in as many nights. The Hawks, playing a back to back due to snow last week, began their Tuesday night game, similar to their Monday night game; cold. The Hawks missed their first 5 free throws, but led 10-1 at the end of the first quarter. The Jaguars of Falls Church got going in the second, capitalizing on 13 trips to free throw line, hitting 11 of them. The Hawks finally stepped on the gas in the third quarter, outscoring the Jaguars by 12 (14-2). The final quarter belonged to reserve forward, Xavier Canady, who scored 12 (season high, 19 pts.) of the Hawks 20 points, connecting on 4 of his 5 three pointers. Freshman Tyler Thornton again provided key offense, coming off the bench in the second quarter, scoring a quick 6 points. His evening ended there as the Hawks went deep into the bench, with the lead growing to 25 by the end. He did continue his hot free throw shooting, extending his streak to 19 in a row. Other key contributors included Sam Rojas, grabbing 12 rebounds, Teddy Mayo who has continued his excellent defense for the third straight game, swiping two steals, and blocking a would be basket, and Chris Johnson, who scored 8 points and snared 6 rebounds. Darius Poindexter also played major minutes, scoring 6 points down the stretch.
