Hawks get Sweet Revenge over Eagles!
The Hayfield boys JV team, avenged an earlier loss to the Edison Eagles, their cross town rivals, by beating them by 9 tonight, on the strength of hot free throw shooting down the stretch, and a opportune 3 point basket by reserve guard Steve Lynch. He had just come off the bench, but he had waited as the offense created an open spot for him. He measured up, and buried the key shot, which opened up the otherwise close game.
The Eagles of Edison HS had been down early, by as much as nine, only to even up the game 2 minutes prior to the half. Then the Hawks beared down, ending the 1st half on a 6 -0 run. In the second half the game seasawed back and forth, until Lynch's 3 pointer increased the lead to 8 points. The Eagles, then proceeded to trim the lead to 3, off a wide open 3 pointer, and lazy defense giving up an open lay-up. Forward Nate McShay (13 pts, 7 rebounds) then sealed the win stealing the ball, under our own basket, with under two minutes remaining. The free throw shooting by Brandyn Marshall (10 pts) and Ben Kim ( 10 pts) took care of the rest.
Other notable efforts: Barry Coleman recorded 5 steals in the game, increasing his team high to 22. Anthony Wilson led the team with 9 rebounds. Reserve center, Isaiah Glasby returned from illness, to get his 8th block of the season.
