Hawks Win Third Straight, over Wakefield!
The JV Hawks have had a great week, since returning from Christmas break. In the first game of the week, they rocked Falls Church, 79-15, then edged W&L 49-48, and followed those wins up with a convincing 16 point win (64-48) over the Wakefield JV. In this game, the Hawks briefly fell behind 8-3, when Coach Poindexter inserted his reserves, who were led by Barry Coleman (7pts, 5stls, 3assts), who almost single handedly stalled Wakefields offense, by snatching 5 steals in a little over a quarter worth of play. His all out hustle inspired the rest of the team, which ended the 1st quarter on a 17-4 run. In the second quarter, the Hawks continued to keep the clamps on, limiting Wakefield to 7 points. In the second half the Hawks eventually were up by 22, before Wakefield went on a 8-0 run to cut to thirteen. That's when Isiash Glasby (4pts, 7 rebs, 2 blks) came up huge, by tipping in a loose ball, which ended Wakefields momentum. Coupled with two key put backs by Nana Owusu ( 8pts, 2rebs, 2stls, 2assts), and Wakefield eventually ran out of gas and time.
Notable contributions: Nate McShay added 6 points and 9 rebounds. Garrick Short scored double digits for the second straight game, with 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Ben Kim had another solid game, scoring 10 points, while grabbing 5 rebounds. Anthony Wilson, who plays center for the Hawks, despite being often 3-4 inches shorter than his opponents, scored 4 points, snagged 3 rebounds, and blocked a shot. Steve Lynch continued his rebound from injury, putting in 7 points (3-4 from the stripe), and dishing out an assist. Freshman standout Tyler Seelman, added 5 points and blocked 2 shots!!
