JV Hawks have no answers for Annandale!
The JV Hawks of Hayfield lost this past Tuesday night to Annandale by giving up a season worst 70 points!! The Hawks started out well, but stalled at 13-13, when Annandale ran off 12 straight points, including a heave at the buzzer, at the end of the 1st quarter, and at the beginning of the second quarter. After that Hayfield was unable to find a way to stop the interior play of Annandale. The Hawks did play better on offense, and shot over 50% from the field overall, for the first time this year.
Notable efforts included Davonte Johnson, who had another solid game, gaining his first start of the year, and coming through with 13 pts, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Jawaan Mosby had a difficult time at the charity stripe, missing all 7 attempts, but did grab 14 rebounds (7 offensive), and blocked 2 shots, while connecting on 3 field goals. Grant Williams is beginning to get his stroke back, as he shot 60% from the floor, en route to 7 points. Leading scorer Ollie Guydon added 8 points in the loss. This game also saw the return of Justin Dreschel, who grabbed 2 rebounds and boxed out well on several other shots. Terry Yarbrough came off the bench in crunch time and added 6 points, but it was not to be.
Hayfield next will host West Potomac on Friday January 16, 2009. Please come out and "squawk for your Hawks"!!
