JV HAWKS STAY UNDEFEATED, OVERWHELM STUART
Hayfield Secondary’s JV Boys Basketball team continued their impressive run through the young season, with a convincing 31 point victory over their National District foes; Stuart HS. The Hawks have held their opponents to an average of 43 points per game this season, including keeping two of their last three opponents under 36. On the offensive side, the Hawks are finding their groove, eclipsing the 60+ point mark in their 4th straight game.
Yesterday, the Hawks jumped on Stuart early, leading by 11 by the end of the 1st quarter. Hayfield was paced by Sophomore Kyle Phox (21pts, 3stls, 2rebs), who had 9 of his team high 21 in the first. The Hawks slowed slightly in the second, only to catch their second win after the half, as 7 different JV Hawks scored, soaring above the Raiders by 13 in the third. Hayfield limited Stuart to only 14 second half points, which led to their 5th victory in as many games. Soph. F Nicholas Grant (2pts, 5rebs, 2assts, 1 stl) came off the bench to snare 5 rebounds from the defensive glass. PG Ralf Bansil (12pts, 5assts, 5stls) followed up his near triple double last game with another solid defensive effort, leading the Hawks to 15 total steals. F Tyler Hodge (8pts, 10rebs, 1stl) increased his interior presence, grabbing double digit rebounds for the first time this year.
