Hayfield’s JV Hawks Boys Basketball team dropped their second game of the season, in a tight loss to the Jaguars of Falls Church HS. On a night, when freshman captain Dalon Thomas was promoted to varsity, the Hawks struggled to find someone to fill his shoes. Hayfield struggled on their own defensive glass, allowing Falls Church to get several offensive rebounds and many easy baskets, while not converting their own shots, when given the opportunity. The Hawks did mount their comeback in the 4th quarter, hitting a season high 5 three point baskets, led by Daniel Carter (7 pts, 1 stl), and Daquan Poindexter (8 pts, 3 assts), who both hit two apiece from downtown. In the end, the Hawks fell just short, as a potential 6th three point basket just missed. The JV Hawks were led by junior reserve power forward Kharon Brewer (8 pts, 10 rebs, 2 stls, and 1 block), and the previously mentioned Daquan Poindexter. Other key contributors included: Quentin Hutchinson (6 pts, 4 rebs, 1 stl), who shot 2-5 from downtown, Ralf Bansil (2 pts, 3 rebs, 2 stls) making his first start of the season, captain Phil Guydon (3 pts, 2 rebs, 2 assts), who hit a clutch 3 pointer in the third quarter, and Muharrim Haque (4 pts, 2 rebs, 1 asst).
